The Love Wave

Old people are big kids!

old-manIn one of my recent post to Facebook I stated that “Old people are just big kids with wrinkly skin.” Have you found this to be true? There are a lot of old people that feel their age and they are in pain a lot, and we pray for them and want to help them feel better, but every once in a while you will come across someone who doesn’t play by the rules. They are old, but the only way you can tell they are old, is from their wrinkles. They absolutely refuse to let their age slow them down at all.

kidIf you look into their eyes, you can see a sparkle, a Love of living, shining through, piercing each moment with wonder and awe, kind of like the way this boy looks. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could feel like that all of the time? Totally in Love with yourself and living! Not just in Love, but ecstatic with yourself!

Based on my experience with the people I have worked with, I have found that Love is like a wave. In the beginning, when people start growing and processing, they move from pain to Love and when they are in Love, it is so great for a while and then the pain comes back again. Then they process and grow some more! When they continually process and grow and change IN LOVE, the wave of love gets bigger and stronger! They get to where they can make themselves feel ecstatic for a while, sometimes for a long while. And then it moves into peace and eventually the peace turns into contentment. After being in contentment for some time, their bodies want to move again, to Shine and they start getting excited and then they have to move and try to keep their minds in the present, but with all the excitement building up, their minds shoot ahead to manifest something amazing like laughing like crazy, dancing to their heart’s content, or singing a song! And then it starts all over again!

Love – it is so amazing to ride the wave!

What are your waves like?

I’m starting a project to to create healing gardens in, around, or near facilities where seniors live. Here’s the write-up for it:

In 2011 there were 368,000 people over the age of 65 in San Diego County. Many of these seniors are living in retirement homes. Residents of these facilities often have no experience of nature. The benefits of involvement in horticultural activities and exposure to nature can be seen in cognitive, psychological, social, and physical realms. Research continues to reveal these benefits across many groups of people.

According to new research published in HortTechnology, older adults who participate in gardening may be more likely to eat their own vegetables and have a better quality of life.

My plan is to create healing gardens in, around, or near facilities where seniors live. Healing gardens are plant dominated environments including green plants, vegetables, fruit trees, flowers, water, and other aspects of nature.

    • Provide well-being for all care partners including employees, family members, volunteers, organizations, the Elders themselves, and ultimately their larger communities.

    • Provide elders with access to a healing garden environment, giving them a direct experience of nature. They have plants that they can nurture which will, in turn, nurture their souls.

    • Imbue daily life for Elders with variety and spontaneity by creating an environment in which unexpected and unpredictable interactions and happenings can take place. This is the antidote to boredom.

    • Create environments such that individuals with cognitive disabilities can have a good quality of life and continue to grow and learn within a supportive living environment.

    • Provide Elder care centers with methodologies to meaningfully fulfill on Minimum Data Set (MDS) measures.
